Top-100 defensive line recruit decommits from LSU football

JaReylan McCoy, a highly sought-after four-star defensive lineman from Tupelo, Mississippi, has decommitted from LSU’s 2026 recruiting class. Standing 6’7″ and weighing 245 pounds, McCoy was previously ranked as the #79 overall prospect, the #6 defensive lineman, and the #5 player in Mississippi for the 2026 class.

McCoy initially committed to LSU on January 2, 2025, but has since decided to reopen his recruitment to explore other opportunities. He holds offers from several prominent programs, including Alabama, USC, Texas A&M, Florida, Penn State, and Tennessee. This development is significant for LSU, as McCoy was considered a key addition to their defensive line for the 2026 class.

During his high school career at Tupelo High School, McCoy showcased impressive skills, recording 120 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks over three seasons. His combination of size and athleticism made him a standout prospect.

LSU’s coaching staff, led by head coach Brian Kelly, has been active in the recruiting process, securing commitments from other top prospects such as defensive lineman Richard Anderson and safety Aiden Hall. Despite McCoy’s decommitment, LSU remains a strong contender in the 2026 recruiting cycle, with a focus on bolstering their defensive line.

As McCoy reopens his recruitment, college football fans will be keenly watching to see which program he ultimately chooses, given his potential to make an immediate impact at the collegiate level.
