Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver, is facing serious legal charges following a fatal car accident on December 17, 2024. The Louisiana State Police have charged Lacy with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Authorities allege that Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger at high speed, illegally passing multiple vehicles in a no-passing zone, which led to a collision resulting in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. After the incident, Lacy is accused of fleeing the scene without rendering aid or contacting emergency services.
In response to these allegations, Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, issued a statement denying his client’s involvement in causing the fatal crash. Ory contends that Lacy briefly passed other vehicles but safely reentered his lane without incident. He asserts that the collision occurred when another vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with Hall’s vehicle, and that Lacy did not strike Hall’s vehicle or any other vehicles he passed. Ory emphasizes that Lacy did not cause or contribute to the crash and that there was no suspicion of alcohol or drug use involved. He also refutes claims that Lacy returned to the scene of the accident, stating that Lacy’s subsequent actions, including sharing graduation pictures and engaging in training, were not intended to minimize the tragedy. Ory calls for a thorough investigation and expresses confidence that it will demonstrate Lacy’s innocence.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Lacy turned himself in to authorities on January 12, 2025, and was released on a $151,000 bond. The case has garnered significant attention, especially considering Lacy’s recent declaration for the 2025 NFL Draft. As the legal proceedings continue, both the prosecution and defense are preparing for a detailed examination of the evidence to determine the facts surrounding the incident.
