Joseph Addai, the former LSU running back and Super Bowl champion, has sadly passed away today. Born on May 3, 1983, in Houston, Texas, Addai’s football journey began at Sharpstown High School, where he excelled as a left-handed option-style quarterback. His impressive high school performance earned him recognition as an All-American and a top 100 recruit.

At Louisiana State University (LSU), Addai made a significant impact. Initially serving as a blocking fullback, he transitioned to running back, ranking fifth in LSU’s history with 2,577 rushing yards. His collegiate achievements include a BCS National Championship in 2003 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2007. Addai’s versatility was evident as he contributed both in rushing and receiving, showcasing his all-around skills.

In the 2006 NFL Draft, Addai was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the 30th overall pick. During his six seasons with the Colts, he became a key player, notably contributing to the team’s victory in Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears. Addai’s performance in the Super Bowl was remarkable, with 77 rushing yards and 10 receptions for 66 yards, totaling 143 yards. His 10 receptions set a Super Bowl record for a running back.
