Stoke forward Mmaee joins SK Rapid Wien on loan

In September 2024, Stoke City forward Ryan Mmaee embarked on a season-long loan to Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien, aiming to gain valuable playing time and experience. The 26-year-old Moroccan international had previously joined Stoke City from Hungarian side Ferencváros in July 2023 for a reported fee of €2 million.

However, Mmaee’s tenure at Rapid Wien was marred by a series of injuries that significantly hindered his progress. Shortly after his arrival, he suffered an injury during his first training session, followed by another setback a few weeks later. His attempt to return during the winter training camp was thwarted by new muscular issues, preventing him from making any competitive appearances for the Austrian club.

Given these challenges, both SK Rapid Wien and Stoke City mutually agreed to terminate Mmaee’s loan arrangement prematurely. This decision allowed the forward to return to Stoke City, where he is expected to contribute to the team’s efforts in the EFL Championship. Mmaee’s return is timely, as Stoke City continues its campaign in the league, and his experience and goal-scoring ability could prove beneficial in the latter part of the season.

Prior to his move to Stoke City, Mmaee had an impressive spell at Ferencváros, where he netted 25 goals in 45 appearances, showcasing his potential as a prolific striker. His international experience with Morocco, including 12 senior caps and 4 goals, further highlights his capabilities on the field.

As Mmaee re-integrates into the Stoke City squad, both the club and its supporters will be hopeful that he can overcome his recent injury setbacks and recapture the form that made him a sought-after talent in European football.
